Weekly AM2 Vol. 4: Shenmue New Year's Card Giveaway | 4th Jan 2000

In this series we translate Shenmue content from Weekly AM2, the official online magazine published by Sega's AM2 development team back in the day. News and information about the Shenmue series could be found regularly within these pages from the end of 1999 through to 2001 with the release of Shenmue II.

Vol. 4 was a fairly brief update posted at the start of the new millennium, shortly after the official release of Shenmue in Japan on December 28th. While not much news is contained, we do learn the nickname of Megumi Yasu, the actress playing Nozomi (read on to find out!). A lucky draw is announced for Shenmue-themed New Year Cards - of which only two were available. Let's hope they were kept and treasured by the winners.

Vol.4: 2000.1.4

Happy New Year to you all.

This is Takuan.

I hope you're all well and enjoying Shenmue.

Let's have another great year!

This week's contents:
  • New Year's Greetings from the Shenmue actors
  • Outtrigger Event [omitted from translation]
  • Shenmue New Year Card Present

New Year's Greetings from the Shenmue actors!

We are delighted to share with you New Year's greetings from Masaya Matsukaze (Ryo Hazuki), Hazuki Ishigaki (Ling Shenhua), Megumi Yasu (Nozomi Harasaki), and Director and Executive Producer Yu Suzuki.

Masaya Matsukaze (Ryo Hazuki)

Congratulations on the pre-New Year release of Shenmue.
And a Happy New Year to you all!
And to all the Shenmue developers: thank you for your hard work!
I'm really happy to hear that Shenmue has been very well received.
I hope that everyone reading this is welcoming in the year 2000 while playing Shenmue - or, that you'll soon be engrossed in Shenmue from early in the New Year.
I look forward to seeing you all at events and such in 2000!

Hazuki Ishigaki (Ling Shenhua)

Happy New Year!
Are you all enjoying Shenmue?
I've been immersed in Shenmue every day since last year, including New Year's Day.
I hope that 2000 will be a fun year, both for myself and for you all.

Megumi Yasu (Nozomi Harasaki)

This is Me-me*.
Everyone, it's 2000. Happy New Year!
The year 2000 has finally arrived.
Please have a great New Year's Day with Shenmue!
*Note from Switch: a nickname formed from the first sound of Megumi's name.

New Year's Greeting from Mr. Suzuki

Happy New Year.

I hope you're all enjoying Shenmue: Chapter 1 Yokosuka. It's the New Year, and I hope that those of you who are usually busy with your studies or work will be able to relax and play at home.

By the way, have you all connected to the Shenmue Passport yet?

In step with your progress through the game, you'll be able to see various videos and character introductions. There is a lot of behind-the-scenes information that you can't find in the game, so if you haven't connected to the Internet with your Dreamcast yet, please take this opportunity to do so.

I'll do my best to make everyone happy this year too. Thank you for your support of Shenmue.
